New Authors Sign on for 2005!
Welcome to the following new authors who have submitted
their stories for publication, which has been accepted for
2005:
Name: Ashley Hibbert
Email: zennedout2004-writer@yahoo.com.au
Country: Australia
Title: Crossing Dragons Canyon
Excerpt: Reaching the tiny ledge, I fell to my knees and
inhaled deeply.
The ledge extended out into Dragons Canyon and was the
closest space between the walls reaching into the sky like
twin palm trees.
I gazed wistfully towards the midday sky, searching for
blue. Lumps of rock protruded from the wall, like plates of
fungi on the trunk of a geriatric tree, often blocking the
scattered day light.
Behind us ran a sturdy bridge connected the two sides.
Beyond that, a track to the canyon floor. Through the floor's
centre snaked a thin river, fed by several waterfalls often
several hundred meters long.
You will read three of Ashley's stories in the science
fiction and fantasy tales of Scribal Tales, January 2005.

Excerpt:
"A Stranger's Tale"
By Darin Dion Hunt
"Please, don't leave
" The young woman
asked.
Travis still backed away, but then he stopped and walked back
up to her. She was a beautiful lady, but she was hurt badly.
His parents had warned him about speaking with people that
he did not know, but for some reason he felt drawn to her.
And, she did have the mark of the elders on her breast. His
father had always told him that when he saw that mark, he
was to obey the one who wore it.
"I'll go and get help for you
" Travis told
her.
"No
It's too late for that! Please, I need to tell
my story. I know that you are from the house of Gidia! I am
to; I know that you do not understand. But, I need you to
tell my story to the elders, when they arrive at the Black
Dragon Inn. Please?" She begged.
"Okay
" Travis answered.
A smile came over her face briefly, before pain wiped it from
her. She took a deep breath and prepared to tell her story.

Title: The Cat and the Moon
Story:
Queen and Huntress, chaste and fair,
Now the sun is laid to sleep,
Seated in thy silver chair,
State in wonted manner keep,
Hesparus entreats thy light,
Goddess, excellent and bright.
Ben Jonson, 1609.
There is a tall tale told in every harbor of the land
of dreams; it is repeated by swaggering seamen, sweating stevedores,
and the odd harbormaster or two. It is said that if a man
were ever to see the lofty spires of Shandaloor from the banks
of Censwadd, the Great Southern Lake, he may then die a happy
man. Perhaps it is true of women as well. One need only ask
Z'Harizaam.
If one could."
Editor's Note: These new authors' stories will appear
during 2005.
Scribal Tales welcomes these new authors.
