| Michael "The Pretentious Twit"
Battaglia has two articles published this month. The first is
his personal
column, which brings back memories of some of his past infamous
lines, "Dance for me, Moon Dog
" (By the way,
I use that line in an Odan story - thanks Michael.)
In his personal column, Michael states his plans for the
Pretentious Twit, his views of what has occurred in
the past year (2004), explains what his own writing is all
about.
The column is unique. That is the real surprise about
Michael's writing style, he manages to be fresh and unique
in each and every column and in each and ever review. Here
is a sentence, which experienced readers to this newsletter
will tell you is not very strange, but it is simply Michael
being Michael:
"Hello, my name is Michael and I write stories about
a man who doesn't exist."
No, the Pretentious Twit does not review in a straightforward
manner, but review he does. If you read his words, you will
polish your writing, because his advice is invaluable.
Is
Karl
Strange Strange? (Editorial Note: That title was
given to Michael's Review of Janice Jackson's "Feast
of the Beast." (This tale was written in collaboration
with Daniel Olarnick).
Here Michael reviews a long-standing and beloved character,
Karl Strange, and why he is so - err - "strange."
Once again, Michael takes on "fantasy writing"
with his pounding style.
Will there be a reply from Ms. Jackson? Fans of the column,
The Pretentious Twit, can only hold their breath and await
what Janice has to say in assessing Michael's opinion of Karl,
Dora and all the inhabitants of the Black Dragon Inn.
In defense of the collaborative method, I have to say
that shared world tales are always evolving tales, character
driven. In order to be character driven, you need to develop
the characters, get the readers familiar with the everyday
comings and going before the quests and adventures begin.
